O evoluţie agresivă a patologiei în condiţiile unor bolnavi nesupravegheaţi poate provoca blocarea căilor respiratorii. Este recunoscută ca o afecţiune gravă, recidivantă. Algoritmul de tratament constă în ablaţia chirurgicală şi medicaţia antivirală.
